Update
Never before in the 80+ years of our Union did members turn out in the numbers they did today. As a result of an unprecedented show of member power, a new 3 year agreement is now in place with our Employers. By allowing members to participate and vote at their workplace, a new system has been born. A model of member engagement and participation that will go down in the history of local 789 as the day our members stood tall and exercised their right to vote on their contract. Our 25 member Negotiation Committee was overwhelmed with the positive response from their fellow Union members. We want to thank the members that turned out for the vote at 39 locations throughout St. Paul and suburbs and supported our recommendation to accept the new agreement. RECOMMENDED AGREEMENT REACHED! EMPLOYER FINAL OFFER [pdf] [html] After week long marathon bargaining, our Union Negotiation Committee has reached an agreement with the major grocery retailers Employer Group. Late afternoon on Friday the Union committee accepted the last, best and final offer from the Employer Group. This offer contains wage increases in every year of the agreement for top rated employees, job and scheduling guarantees for BOTH Full and Part time Employees, improvements in Employer contributions for our Defined Contribution Plan (401K) and major improvements in health care benefits for BOTH Full and Part time employees. Our Union committee achieved 100% of our proposed wellness and benefit improvements! There are NO employee health care contributions required during the life of this 3 year agreement. On Saturday, members of our negotiation committee will be in the stores with copies of the final proposal. Please look for a copy in your break room, look it over, talk with co-workers and VOTE ON SUNDAY! Members that want to hear the full details of the contract proposal may come to meetings at the Union hall at 8AM, 2PM and 6PM. In addition, the Union hall will be open continuously for voting from 8AM-7PM. Ballots will be counted at the Union hall after the completion of the 6PM informational meeting. This is an historic moment for members of local 789 in that for the first time in our Unions history we will be bringing ballot boxes to our members so they may vote where they work. Look for the voting times in the grid published in our Insight and on our website. We will be voting in the parking lot out in front of your store. Look
